Shinaide Villa-Diaz
Owner/Baker
Since I could stand on a step stool, I was helping my mom in the kitchen.
I come from a long line of bakers. My mom had our home kitchen made into a commercial kitchen and was baking for everyone around town and as far as SF. I remember waking up to the sound of the mixer running.
My grandmother on my dads side, as seen in the picture made elaborate wedding cakes for people. I unfortunately didn't get to learn from her but I did inherit all her baking tools and I've baked for every event I can remember for all my family functions throughout the years.

When I graduated high school, I went straight into Baking and Pastry school at Le Cordon Blue in SF.
Then, I went to work/Bake at the Cannes Film Festival in Nice, France. Once I graduated from Pastry school, I was baking for most of the coffee shops in town until my life ventured to living in Mexico. There, I began baking for everyone around me for the fun of it. I learned a lot about humidity, as well as what works and doesn't work in different climates.

When I came back to Petaluma, I took orders here and there for clients just as a side gig.
Then in 2020, Covid hit and my life took a new spin from producing Music Festivals, and working music venues, to jobless with 2 kids and needing to figure out a new path...to which Spoonful of Sugar began!
I never imagined making custom cakes but it's been fantastic.
